A True Fighter!

A True Fighter! Honor Your Hero - Ileana Yau

By Ileana Yau

On July 17, 2013 I wrote to the GBS Foundation requesting information as my father was diagnosed with GBS at 87 years of age. Today I am writing to “Honor Your Hero” as my father has fought and recovered very well! He made enormous efforts to recover and he did everything he can to improve each day. He is a true fighter! For an entire month (July-august 2013), he made his way from the bed, to the wheel chair, to physical therapy, to again eating solid food. Five years later, he is living with one of my sisters, he is doing fine and he is now 92 years old! Around one year ago, he suffered the loss of my mother, his wife for almost 70 years. She passed away on February 1, 2017. This was really hard for him, but again, he is a true fighter and currently he is doing very fine. My father is my Hero. My father´s name is Santiago Yau Soto and my mother´s name was América Marengo de Yau. They were good parents and a great couple. They have 6 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
