Dear Rep./Sen. _____________,
I am a constituent living with [Condition].
Thank you for your leadership on patient care and public health issues. I am reaching out today on behalf of the GBS|CIDP Foundation International and individuals affected by Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), and Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN) to ask that you work to pass an extension of the Affordable Care Act enhanced advance premium tax credits (eAPTCs).
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. It is characterized by the rapid onset of numbness, weakness, and often paralysis of the legs, arms, breathing muscles, and face. GBS is a immune response triggered condition meaning it can occur in anyone, and is life-threatening, with hospitalization followed by prolonged and difficult recovery period. Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a related condition that also attacks the peripheral nervous system, but is chronic, and persists over a patient’s life, requiring continued treatment and care. Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN) is a related chronic condition with similar treatment and recovery plan.
The GBS|CIDP Foundation International is a patient-driven 501c3 founded over 40 years ago. Our vision is that every person afflicted with GBS, CIDP, or related syndromes such as MMN has convenient access to early and accurate diagnosis, appropriate and affordable treatments, and dependable support services.
Because of these credits, thousands of individuals with GBS, CIDP, and MMN are able to access critical high-quality healthcare at an affordable price. For patients living with these conditions, the consequences of inadequate or unaffordable health insurance resulting in missed treatments can be extremely dire and can lead to lifelong consequences. Passing this extension will ensure that patients are able to continue to afford necessary treatments and spend time with their families and in their communities. On behalf of the GBS|CIDP Foundation community, thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
