LONDC & ANF Launch “Why Behind Your Weakness” Campaign

We’re excited to announce that the Late-Onset Neuromuscular Disease Consortium (LONDC) and ANF launched the “Why Behind Your Weakness” campaign at the MDA Clinical & Scientific Conference on Monday, March 9.

This initiative reflects the collective work of clinicians, researchers, advocates, and patient communities whose insights and expertise have helped shape every stage of development—from the LOND Clinical Decision Tool to the educational resources now being shared with both healthcare providers and patients.

Together, this effort is designed to improve early recognition of late-onset neuromuscular disease (LOND) and support faster access to appropriate specialist care.

About the Campaign

The “Why Behind Your Weakness” campaign centers on a shared goal: helping first-line healthcare providers better recognize when muscle weakness may be more than aging.

At the core of this initiative is the LOND Clinical Decision Tool, which was developed through collaboration with patient communities, clinicians, and neuromuscular experts. The tool is designed to support earlier clinical consideration of LOND symptoms and encourage timely referral and diagnosis.

The LOND Clinical Decision Tool helps guide early identification of potential late-onset neuromuscular disease by:

  • Supporting recognition of symptoms that may be misattributed to normal aging
  • Encouraging earlier clinical action and referral
  • Helping shorten the diagnostic journey for patients

This resource was shaped directly by patient and clinician input, ensuring it reflects real-world needs in primary and frontline care settings.
