Global Collaboration Sparks Policy Change in Turkey

In early 2025, the Foundation’s International team was presented with an evolving situation in Turkey regarding IG reimbursement for CIDP and MMN.

In partnership with the PPTA, Kedrion and other stakeholders, the Foundation team took action by reaching out to our global network of patients and healthcare professionals who, on behalf of the patient community, expressed deep concern to the Department of Health Services regarding Turkey’s recent adoption of new guidelines for immunoglobulin (Ig) product use. These changes, issued as part of the “Health Practice Notification for Reimbursement” included restrictions on maintenance dosing frequency and a one year treatment limitation.  There were serious concerns among patients and healthcare professionals about their potential impact on quality of care. Notably, Can Ebru Kurt, Professor of Neurology, Neuromuscular Diseases and Neurogenetics Vice Medical Director of Hacettepe University, and volunteer Sait Mentes Birlik, were amongst those from our community who joined these advocacy efforts in Turkey.

After 15 months of intensive advocacy work, the SUT reimbursement criteria in Turkey have been restored to their previous framework.

This achievement is the result of effective global advocacy collaboration among several functions and the involvement and commitment of numerous stakeholders including the PPTA, Kedrion and the GBS | CIDP Foundation International, from initial stages of the process, all the way through to the successful outcome.
