Meeting of GBS|CIDP Switzerland
University Hospital Balgrist at Zurich
On October 26, 2024, around 50 members of the GBS/CIDP Initiative Switzerland gathered at Balgrist University Hospital in Zurich for a valuable event focused on exchange and education. The day provided our members with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), explore new approaches, and support one another.
The afternoon began with a Q&A session led by Dr. Friedl, a neurologist. She answered attendees’ questions with impressive expertise, taking the time to address specific concerns and challenges faced by those affected. This exchange provided participants with not only valuable information but also comfort and encouragement.
After a refreshment break, our members had time for personal conversations, allowing them to share valuable experiences and tips for dealing with the conditions.
Following this was an engaging lecture on the Buteyko breathing method by Ms. Ganser. This technique, focusing on calm, deep breathing into the diaphragm, promotes natural relaxation and can help reduce stress levels and improve general well-being. Ms. Ganser led the group through some practical breathing exercises, demonstrating how easily the method can be integrated into daily life. One example she highlighted is humming for three minutes, a practice that when repeated several times a day, deepens and calms the breath.
The afternoon at Balgrist University Hospital offered a valuable blend of information, exchange, and relaxation and was greatly appreciated by our members. We thank all participants, especially Dr. Friedl and Ms. Ganser, for their valuable contributions, and look forward to the next meeting on March 29, 2025, at the Inselspital in Bern.
